All the new materials developed within the project must be compatible with industrial production and processing, at a scale compatible with TWs of PV manufacture, if they are to be viable for use in the marketplace. Materials will be assessed for stability, cost (materials and processing), abundance and toxicity. Having established the preferred design on small area samples, layer deposition will be optimised over larger areas (>20 * 30 cm). Particular attention will be paid to defect analysis and minimising defect density. Once all the layers can be uniformly processed, we will establish the cell patterning in the modules, and the cell interconnections, or “stringing methods”. The modules must produce sufficient voltage to be compatible with supporting maximum power point tracking and inverter systems, without compromising the visual aspect of the window. Finally, the modules will be prepared for integration into buildings with incorporation of electrical connection fixtures for connectivity to wider electrical systems.
